The epidemic of obesity

The epidemic of obesity is now recognized as one of the most important public health problems facing the world. According to the WHO (2014) there are around 2 billion adults overweight, and of those 670 million are obese.

The World Obesity Federation estimates that around 224 million school-age children are overweight, making this generation the first predicted to have a shorter lifespan than their parents.

Most obese adults were obese already in childhood. Thus, the roots of adult obesity lie in childhood. This is also the age when the fight against obesity is the most successful. Therefore, it is very reasonable to focus on the origins of obesity in children, preferably those already in pre-school age. So start on time!

This BMI calculator provides initial information about the weight status of the child. In any case, it is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice. On the contrary, it is intended to bring the child for expert consultation if a deviation from the normal development of the child is detected. BMI is a parameter calculated from height and weight and only indirectly indicates the amount of fat in the body. More accurate assessment requires examination by a trained health professional.
